Car Hire Orlando via Virgin? Can my husband drive if I booked the holiday?

car hire

Booked my disney holiday through Virgin which includes car hire. Will my husband be able to drive the car or will I have to as I booked it?

  1. you just add his name on when you pick the car up. no problem as long as hes over 21.

  2. yes if you’re husband is down as a named driver!! you do this when you collect the car

  3. Check the cost of your car hire with Virgin and compare it with booking in this country with Avis, I found when you go to get your car at Alamo in the Florida airport their Insurance is sky high, we found it cheaper to book a car with Avis which includes fully comprehensive insurance but you still pick it up at the Airport, I think you will find there will be an extra charge to Add your husband to the insurance. As they say “Have a nice Vacation”.

  4. I agree with Edward above.
With Virgin you will be required to pay for the insurance for the car hire, this can work out more expensive than hiring a car from the UK. The price you pay from a separate company will include the insurance.
They normally offer two grades of insurance I always go for the Gold insurance which includes a tank of petrol ( this means you return the car empty) and extra drivers.
I know lots of people that have booked fly drive with Virgin but did not take up the car hire part.
Check out for some good rates.
After you have booked you car from the UK do not be talked onto upgrading when you get there, this will also work out expensive.

  5. Yes-just organise for an additional driver, contact Virgin and they’ll be able to arrange it for you.

  6. This will not be a problem if you add him to the named drivers when you collect the car. You will both need your driving licence (both parts) and your passports for identification plus all the documents you have been sent to take along. I have looked into this several times as I am trying to brave driving there myself as it can sometimes be taxing managing with public transport. have driven abroad before as well so not sure why I worry re Orlando.

    have a great holiday.

  7. Yes he will be able to drive as long as he is named on the insurance when you pick the car up. I went to Orlando last year with my whole family, my father was going to drive and then changed his mind. When we picked the car up I showed them my driving license and passport and had no problems. Have a good holiday.
