With the Christmas holiday season only days away, the The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA), the trade body for the UK car rental industry, is again warning customers to take extra care when confronted with cheap deals for Christmas car hire on the Internet or in the press.

In their press release issued on the 13th December they advised: Festive season travellers were caught out by bogus car hire companies this time last year, handing over deposits of hundreds of pounds for cars that never materialised.

The BVRLA believes that similar scams are being planned this year and has already made contact with Police and Trading Standards over one potential threat.

“These companies offer unbeatable prices and free delivery – but they really are too good to be true,” says BVRLA chief executive, John Lewis.

“Unfortunately it is very easy for fraudsters to build a simple website and set up a call centre to pass themselves off as legitimate businesses.

These sham operators are damaging the reputation of car rental and many other industries. We are working with the authorities to help stamp them out.”

In the meantime, the BVRLA is offering five simple tips for customers looking for safe and hassle-free car or van rental:

1. Only use a BVRLA member. Seeing our logo on the front desk or website is a sign that you are dealing with a reputable company that has been vetted and operates to a professional code of conduct. You will also be able to use our conciliation service in the event of any dispute. Find a BVRLA member via the ‘member locator’ on the BVRLA website?

2. Never hand over cash. Most reputable rental companies will only want to accept credit/debit card payment

3. Make sure the company is operating from a bona fide commercial premises, not a PO Box or virtual office, no matter how prestigious the location sounds

4. Make sure the company actually owns and operates the cars it is offering – all BVRLA members operate their own rental fleet.

5. Remember, if the price or service being offered seems too good to be true, it probably is and you may well end up out of pocket and disappointed!

We are near the end of a very mild October (currently 13 degrees in the London area), in a month when we had a very hot “late summer” weekend at the start. Carrentals have just issued a press release earlier today reminding us that winter is not far away and it was not too good last year…so be prepared.

Their release say…?Snow Tyres Advised on UK and European Roads This Winter Says Carrentals.co.uk

Award-winning car hire website wants Brits to think about fitting winter tyres at home as well as abroad with a view to safety.

With another cold UK winter just around the corner and weathermen predicting snow very soon, award-winning car hire price comparator Carrentals.co.uk has warned motorists to think about putting winter tyres onto their cars not just abroad but at home as well.

This time last year leading suppliers of car tyres like Kwik Fit were even found to have sold out of their stock of winter tyres as Brits in their thousands looked to make their cars safer and more secure on the UK’s snow-laden roads.

Each winter Carrentals.co.uk tells its site users heading for ski holidays to pre-book winter tyres and snow chains when they reserve their rental car to be sure of getting what they need – this year however the website is also advising Brits at home to think about fitting winter tyres when snow is forecast by the weatherman.

Car rental providers typically class winter tyres and snow chains among their list of optional extras, but many drivers still expect them to be available on arrival in a ski resort – this can lead to people paying more for them or missing out altogether.

Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, commented: “Whether or not winter tyres must be fitted on a car remains a confusing issue for drivers, but they’re certainly required in ski resorts around Europe and this year advisable on the UK’s roads.”

“If hiring a car in a ski resort in the Alps or Pyrenees this year the smart move it to book a ‘snow pack’ with your rental provider before travelling – this is the way to ensure availability of these valuable extras like snow chains and special tyres.”

?Carrentals.co.uk is the leading hire car comparison site comparing cheap car hire deals from up to 50 rental companies, including Alamo, Auto Europe, Budget, Holiday Autos and Sixt, in over 15,000 locations worldwide including locations across Europe including car hire in Frankfurt and car hire in Berlin.

To compare the best prices visit carrentals.co.uk Here.

We hope that it is not as bad as last year and if it is does not last so long, however this release contains some good advice, in the meantime enjoy a sunny weekend.

Carrentals.co.uk issued a news release yesterday advising that Travellers renting cars are being advised to report any ‘wear and tear’ issues they experience with a car, including concerns such as brake and clutch performance, to the supplier to help avoid unfair excess charges on their return.
The advice comes from leading comparison site Carrentals.co.uk, which has been told of a number of cases where customers were charged for issues such as a damaged clutch, which would have been built up over time.

Gareth Robinson, Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, says: “Most people will check over their rental car before driving off, but sometimes there can be problems that can’t be found until the car is actually being driven. A clutch that has been damaged by frequent riding, brakes affected by aggressive usage over time – they’re just some of the potential issues that can build up and result in one unlucky customer being unfairly charged. Our advice is that if you have any concerns about your car – be that the oil level or braking performance, contact your rental company straight away.

“Rental companies do regularly maintain their cars, but it’s always possible for unseen damage to occur over time. Our focus is on ensuring our customers aren’t financially hit for previous misuse.”

Carrentals.co.uk Top Tips to Avoid ‘Unfair Wear & Tear’ Charges -

Shop around for the most comprehensive excess insurance cover before you travel – and make sure it covers things like tyre and windscreen damage.
On collection, check over your rental car carefully – take your time and highlight any concerns with your supplier.

While you may not be able to see things like a nail in a tyre or a clutch that is slipping, once you start driving the vehicle take your time to feel if everything’s OK and if you have any concerns go back to the supplier and let them know straight away.
Again, once you’re out on the road or in your destination, if something’s not right with your car, don’t wait until you drop it off to highlight the problem, contact the supplier and let them know.
Keep a record of your contact with your supplier, including phone calls and written communication to ensure you have all of the details in case you need to challenge any charges.

Gareth adds: “While many people now take out excess insurance cover, some elements such as damage to windscreens and tyres just aren’t covered with many suppliers, despite them being the most likely to be damaged. Make sure you know what you’re getting with your insurance cover, and if in any doubt about your car’s performance report it to the supplier immediately.”

The award winning Carrentals.co.uk compares cheap car hire deals from companies including Alamo, Auto Europe, Budget, Holiday Autos and Sixt, and has booked over 650,000 rentals to date. Offering car hire in Portugal, including car hire in Faro, as well as Spain, France and over 15,000 locations worldwide, for more information go to http://www.insurance4carrental.com/Carrrentals.htm

A lot of people have gotten the wrong information about how to get rid of their end of life cars and this article ought to clear a lot of that up. If you are looking to get rid of a car as scrap, reading this may not only save you a lot of money, it may just end up putting a little extra cash in your pocket as well.

The first myth that a lot of people think is true is that anyone can scrap cars. While this is partly true not every scrap dealer is licensed by the government and only the scrap dealers that have this certification will be able to get rid of your car, in a manner that is not harmful to the environment and to any human beings that are involved in the process of taking apart your car and recycling it.

The second reason that some people think twice about selling their car as scrap is that they are afraid of their liability if the car is not scrapped as promised and someone actually uses these end of life vehicles and has an accident in them. The truth is that if you do the paper work correctly that certifies that you have sold your car as scrap and you do it to a reputable dealer then you have nothing to worry about at all.

The third reason that many people think twice about having their cars scrapped is because they think that it will actually cost them money. This could not be further from the truth as there is no reason that you should have to pay for a car to get scrapped. There are many services that will come and pick up your end of life vehicle and take it to a scrap yard. They would do this absolutely free of charge and for some cars that have a little bit of value still left in them; you may actually get a little bit of money by selling them the car as scrap. You should do your research and find out or better still call a reputable dealer and when they come to pick up your car they will do an on the spot appraisal and tell you how much money they can offer you for your car if any. This should make the entire process of scrap cars as painless and cost free as possible and good for you and the environment as well.

One of the most reputable scrap cars & salvage cars services can be found online at www.metrosalvage.co.uk

This should make the entire process of scrap cars as painless and cost free as possible and good for you and the environment as well.

Just had an email altert in from Stars’n'Bars in Monaco and this was all about the MonacoUSA Happy Hour on Thursday February 17.

Moving about on their website I came across this page – “Rent an Eco car” -
Stars’n’Bars is delighted to be assisting Monaco’s first 4-wheel electric car rental company MC ECO RENTAL. The new company offers residents and tourists the chance to tour in and around the principality with zero emissions.

The fleet consists of 6 Estrima Biro, 2-seater urban cars that are 100% electric and be charged on a traditional plug. The cars can be rented by the hour, half-day, day, week or month. Reserve by telephone and the car can be delivered to your preferred location or picked up at the Stars’n'Bars.

Looking at the mc-eco-rental website you can hire these electric vehicles at starting price of €15.

Their website is in French and to rent one of their cars you will need the following:

The little car has just about enough space for two people (driver and passenger) and measuring 1m X 1,74 so it is not going to be hard to park and ideal for touring Monaco.

They obviously don’t go too quickly, however if you are wanting to see the “traffic” moving around Monaco ….FAST then the Stars’N'Bars 3 storey restaurant is located directly in front of the Grand Prix “paddocks” where the greatest Formula 1 drivers in the world and their teams set up headquarters during the four day Monaco racing event every May.

For those who like visting the Historic Monaco Grand Prix – Grand Prix Historique de Monaco that is held on the same streets every other year. Next date will be May 2012
More information at http://www.cotedazurrental.com/historic_monaco_grand_prix.htm
